Frequently Asked Questions

What is bisexuality?

Bisexuality can be defined as a sexual, or romantic attraction to both sexes.

But quite a few people have problems with this definition, partly because gender isn't so black and white, (see trans section of website), and partly because some people are only bisexual for a part of their life.

The definition given by both directions (see resources) defines bisexuality as 'a changeable sexual and emotional attraction to people, where gender may not be a defining factor'

How many bisexuals are there?

According to Kinsey sexuality is on a scale from 0, completely heterosexual, to 6, completely homosexual. He also found that very few people lie on the these extremes.

So it depends what you count, if you look at everyone not strictly het or homo, then you've got a significant chunk of the population, if you choose self definition as the main factor, then not many people in the UK consider themselves bisexual, and people who may fit into this definition may not wish to label themselves, or act in a bisexual manner.

Am I bisexual?

Life can be confusing if you don't know who you are, your parents could be telling you you're straight, your gay best friend could be telling you you're gay. If at one moment you fancy a guy, and another you fancy a girl, the fact you do so makes you bisexual. So congratulations, you can admire someone from the back, and not worry what gender they are!
